The Epic Horse sale and Incentive Campdraft was the brainchild of Mark Haywood, the then principal of Ray White Rural Kempsey, and his Livestock salesman and renowned Campdraft competitor Tim McCarthy.

When the business was purchased by Daniel and Rachel South some tough decisions needed to be made around the future of The Epic. In its early years the Epic had been plagued by the challenges of extreme wet weather that had for a number of years coincided with the time of the event, and a lack of an undercover venue made it difficult to grow the event without moving it. Following a conversation with Blake O'Reilly at Ray White Rural Guyra/Armidale, who is also an avid campdrafter, the appeal of having both an undercover arena and access to large lines of well-handled and vendor bred cattle made the decision relatively simple and in 2021 the Epic was moved to the New England city of Armidale.

About The Epic

Whilst the decision was difficult the reward for vendors and competitors has been enormous. The campdraft in its inaugural year was heralded as the finest competition ever witnessed by those in attendance, and this quality of competition was repeated in The Epics second year (2022) in Armidale. This continued "raising of the bar" now sees many of the finest horsemen in the nation pledging their support to the event by nominating both quality horses for the sale and the campdraft.

The Epic sale is now coordinated by Blake and Holly O'Reilly, and Bruce and Prue Birch, all of whom are passionate competitors in a number of equine pursuits. Their mantra is to provide an alternate platform to all vendors to sell with a professional, friendly, and accommodating sales team that will always put their vendors interests ahead of their own. In order to successfully achieve their objectives, the sale facilitators draw on the wider Australian Property and Livestock Group to staff the sale with the finest auctioneers, bid spotters, and clerical staff in the ever-growing network.
